The primary deficit was 103.56 billion reais, the worst result from January to August since 2020, the year in which the country faced the Covid-19 pandemic.
In January, Brazil’s Finance Minister had committed to achieving a maximum primary deficit of R$100 billion (1% of GDP) by the end of 2023. However, this value was exceeded in the 7th month of the year. Now, if the government wants to maintain this objective, they will have to adopt measures so that the primary result does not worsen until December.
